The proposed project will entail the development of a well field and installation of a ready-built test mining station to assess the suitability of the in-situ leaching method on the deposit in order to extract uranium through various test procedures and using a variety of solutions on selected target areas within the Headspring exploration areas. Limited to no land clearing is planned and no construction activities will take place for this project.
Headspring plans to take the project from the exploration stage to the next stage by developing and commencing a pilot plant to assess the potential success of extracting uranium through the in-situ leach process. This will be by means of a series of injection and rejection boreholes, pipelines, pumps, dosing and ion-exchange processes on a 15 x 15 meters area of extent. The project involves, the following activities:
Environmental Compliance Consultancy (ECC) has been engaged by the proponent Headspring Investments (Pty) Ltd to undertake the Environmental, Social and Impact Assessment and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 2007 and its regulations. The environmental clearance application will be submitted to the relevant competent authorities; the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism (MEFT).
