The irrigation system with the suggested use of ~2.625 million cubic meters of water per annum, will support 90 ha of center pivots for maize and wheat production. The Project site is located approximately 30 km southeast of the Kombat settlement and 42 km southwest of Grootfontein town and can be accessed via the D2512 district road that branches out from the B8 main road in the Otjozondjupa Region.
ECC has been engaged by Retort Charcoal Producers (Pty) Ltd. as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to facilitate the scoping plus impact assessment process. Prior to the start of the proposed projects, an environmental clearance certificate is required in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 7 of 2007 and the associated EIA Regulations. A final decision relating to the above-mentioned application will be made by Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT): Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).
