The Proponent, Grace Simba Investments (Pty) Ltd, holds an environmental clearance certificate for mining activities for base and rare metals, industrial minerals and precious metals on mining licence (ML) 133, in the Erongo Region. The environmental clearance certificate was initially awarded to Uis Tin Mining Company (Pty) Ltd on 17 September 2023. The environmental clearance certificate was then transferred to Grace Simba and remains valid until 17 September 2026.
The purpose of the amendment is to revise the Project description by including expanded mineral exploration activities, and to provide a more detailed assessment of the impacts associated with short- to medium-term exploration activities. This amendment does not remove or replace the mining activities already approved. ML 133 is a mining licence issued in terms of the Minerals (Prospecting and Mining) Act, No. 33 of 1992, and mining of the minerals to which the licence relates remains an authorised activity that the Proponent intends to undertake within the licence area. This amendment therefore addresses both the expanded exploration programme and the continued mining activities on ML 133.
ECC has been engaged by Grace Simba Investments (Pty) Ltd as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to facilitate the entire amendment process. A environmental clearance certificate was issued for the current Project in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 7 of 2007 and the associated EIA Regulations. A final decision relating to the above-mentioned amendment application will be made by Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT): Department of Environmental Affairs and Forestry (DEAF).
