The Proponent, QKR Namibia Navachab Gold Mine (Pty) Ltd., intends to proceed to Phase 2, which involves full-scale underground operations on mining licence (ML) 31, Karibib, Erongo Region, Namibia. Additionally, a third explosives magazine is required for these operations and will be constructed and operated between the two current and active magazine sites. As a result, an additional scoping report with impact assessment (i.e. amendment report) and an update to Navachab’s operational environmental management plan (OEMP) have been developed and updated to reflect the updates to the site layout, the proposed infrastructure and full-scale underground mining activities.
ECC has been engaged by QKR Namibia Navachab Gold Mine (Pty) Ltd. as their independent environmental assessment practitioner (EAP) to amend their environmental clearance certificate and update their operational environmental management plan (OEMP) to include phase 2 (full scale) underground mining, better known as Project //Khaima and the construction and operation of an additional explosive magazine on mining licence (ML) 31. This is being conducted in terms of Section 39(1)(a) of the Environmental Management Act, No.7 of 2007 and Section 19(1) of the associated Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations. A final decision relating to the application as mentioned above will be submitted to the competent authority and mining commissioner (MC) at the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy and forwarded to the Environmental Commissioner (EC) at the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT): Department of Environmental Affairs and Forestry (DEAF)
