The Proponent, on behalf of NamWater, proposes to construct and operate a borefield with ten (10) bores, 30 km bulk water supply pipeline and associated infrastructure from the OCAA to the proposed Kokoseb Gold Mine Project on ML 274.
Support infrastructure includes a collection tank, pump station, collector pipes, flow metres, valves, manholes and overhead electrical infrastructure connecting the borefield to the existing Erongo Regional Electricity Distributor (Erongo RED) 22 kilovolt (kV) and 11 kV distribution network. The electrical infrastructure will ensure adequate power supply for the borefield operations, including groundwater abstraction and pumping activities.
The bores are currently in the process of being established as part of the water supply investigation programme and consists of ten (10) abstraction boreholes. The proposed scope of work includes the development of bore pumps and headworks, access tracks where required, installation of collector pipelines connecting the abstraction boreholes to the main bulk water supply pipeline, trenching and excavation works for pipeline installation, construction of the pump station, and extension of the existing Erongo RED overhead power supply infrastructure to the borefield.
Mandarin Investments (Pty) Ltd has engaged ECC as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to facilitate the entire ESIA process. Before the start of the proposed project, an environmental clearance certificate is required in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 7 of 2007 and the associated EIA Regulations. A final decision regarding the above-mentioned application will be made by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT), Department of Environmental Affairs and Forestry (DEAF).
