Project

The proposed construction and operation of an additional tailings storage facility (TSF3), Erongo Region, Namibia

Construction and operation of an additional tailings storage facility

QKR Navachab Namibia Gold Mine (Pty) Ltd propose to construct a 20 Mm3 tailings storage facility (TSF), which is located onsite 10 km southwest of Karibib, Erongo Region. The construction of TSF 3 will allow Navachab to continue operations for the rest of the life of the mine (LOM) while ensuring the safe disposal of tailings from the carbon in-pulp (CIP) plant. This will ensure the continued provision of employment to thousands of people. The construction of the TSF will require the mine to hire outside contractors and a labour force from Karibib and surrounding areas.

ECC’s Role

ECC has been contracted by QKR Navachab Namibia Gold Mine (Pty) Ltd, as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EPA), to facilitate the  ESIA process. Prior to the start of the proposed Project, an environmental clearance certificate has to be issued in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 7 of 2007 and the associated EIA Regulations. A final decision relating to the above-mentioned application will be made by Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT): Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).
