Susuwe Island Lodge is situated along the banks of the Kwando River within the Mayuni conservancy. The lodge sustained significant damage from a fire in 2015 and now requires major renovations. It is located ~13 km from Kongola, to the west of the C49 main road, en route to Mudumu National Park in the Zambezi Region of Namibia.
The Susuwe Lodge will feature six luxurious tented units, elevated 2.5 meters (m) above the ground on walkways. There will be two dining areas: one at the current waterfront location of the main building and another raised on a wooden deck offering panoramic views of the Babwata National Park. Each spacious 75 m² tent will include a deck with a view of the park and a private hot tub. The waterfront area will have a rim-flow swimming pool positioned at the edge of the Kwando River.
ECC has been engaged by Burgland Zani Safaris (Pty) Ltd. as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to facilitate the entire ESIA process. Prior to the start of the proposed projects, an environmental clearance certificate is required in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 7 of 2007 and the associated EIA Regulations. A final decision relating to the above-mentioned application will be made by Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT): Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).
