Public consultation reopened: 16 October 2026
An application for an environmental clearance certificate has been made for this project, which forms part of the power and water supply infrastructure for the proposed Kokoseb Gold Project. The application is to be submitted to the Environmental Commissioner in terms of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (Government Notice No. 30 of 2012). This notice replaces the notices published for this project in July 2026 and gives interested and affected parties (I&APs) a further opportunity to register.
To register, email info@eccenvironmental.com, write to PO Box 91193, Klein Windhoek, or call +264 81 669 7608, quoting the application number below. The closing date of 9 November 2026 is for registering and raising any initial questions or concerns. You do not need to have read or commented on any report by that date. Once registered, you will be kept informed and involved throughout the assessment of this project. When a report is released, ECC will notify you and give you at least 14 days to comment on it, which is longer than the minimum of 7 days set by the Regulations. If you registered earlier in 2026, you remain registered and do not need to register again.
Hard copies of the reports will be placed at the Omaruru Municipality and the !Oe≠Gan Traditional Authority office in Okombahe when each report is released.
Description: The project includes expanding the NamPower Omburu substation near Omaruru and building an approximately 90 km 132 kV overhead powerline. The line runs parallel to the existing 66 kV line to Uis, to a new 132 kV metering station about 10 km from the proposed mine site. An approximately 10 km 132 kV line then runs from the metering station to a new 132/11 kV substation at the proposed mine.
Status: Scoping phase.
